The Benefits Of A Foot Soak

If your feet are too tired, you aren't going to be able to move around too much. Tired and aching feet can impact the entire body and cause you to ache all over if you continue on with those tired feet. Taking care of your feet is essential, and a good foot soak can have a great number of benefits. Read on for a few of these benefits.

Alleviate Stress

If you're stressed out, you may have thought about soaking your entire body in the tub to alleviate your stress. Soaking just your feet can have the same effect. Grab a container or a foot bath if you have one. Fill it with warm water and add some bath salts to it. Soak your feet in the tub making sure you have enough water to cover your feet up to your ankles. Soak your feet for 10 - 15 minutes, or until the water begins to cool. Do this while reading a book, or just sitting in a quiet room alone without any distractions.

Clear Up Athlete's Foot

If you have athlete's foot, a foot soak can be beneficial to you as well. Athlete's foot is a foot fungus that can cause itching or burning of the feet. It's usually caused when the feet are kept moist such as from sweating, or when the feet come in contact with fungi - such as from a public shower house or pool. Soak the feet in a warm foot bath and add Epsom salts or apple cider vinegar to the bath. Allow the feet to soak, then remove them from the foot bath. Pat your feet dry, paying attention to the areas between the toes which is the area most prone to foot fungus. When your feet are dry, spray them with an anti-fungal foot spray and cover them with clean, breathable socks. Repeat this once daily until the athlete's foot is gone.

Soften Feet

If your feet have hard or crusty areas such as on the bottom of the toes or at the heel, a foot soak can benefit this as well. Soak your feet in the warm foot bath and add bath salts. Using a foot file, add some foot scrub to the file and scrub the hardened areas of the feet. Scrub your feet gently so as to not injure your feet. Allow your feet to soak again for at least 10 minutes. When finished with the foot bath, dry your feet thoroughly and apply foot lotion to your feet. Wear clean and breathable socks, so your feet don't dry out.
